THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL STUDENT'S LIFE SATISFACTION SCALE (1994)
BY E. SCOTT HUEBNER
ABOUT
The multidimensional student's satisfaction scale is a longer scale assessment, containing 40 statements used either with individuals or in a group setting, for measuring a student's satisfaction with life. It was developed to promote positive psychological well-being among young people and students.
Huebner hoped to:
- Provide a tool that can be used effectively with a wide range of young people.
- Show the meaningfulness of the five specific domains it includes: family, friends, school, living environment and self.
- Demonstrate acceptable and reliable psychometric properties.
- Provide a general assessment of life satisfaction.
- Create a distinctive profile of a child's life satisfaction over specific domains.
HOW IT WORKS
Participants will rate their response to the statements using a numerical grading scale:
1 = Never
2 = Sometimes
3 = Often
4 = Almost always
A higher tallied score means a higher level of life satisfaction.
